setting standards. meeting standards.
FREPA accredited free-range farmers are routinely audited to a set of standards developed to ensure that chickens are able to routinely access an enriched outdoor range area, age and weather permitting.
Our standards are based on the principles of the Five Freedoms for better animal welfare.
FREPA’s standards cover a range of important factors:
Birds must have regular access to enriched and safe outdoor areas.
Health & Welfare
Birds are routinely assessed and reviewed for flock health and welfare.
We adhere to the Five Freedoms – the benchmark industry standards around poultry welfare.
Indoor housing facilities on free range farms must provide a safe and comfortable environment for birds.
Birds must be provided with nutritious feed and clean water to meet their requirements for optimal growth and development.
Birds are routinely assessed and reviewed for flock health and welfare by veterinarians.
Safe From Predators
Procedures and infrastructure must be in place to protect birds from predators at all times.
All birds are to be transported in accordance with the Land Transport Code.
Biosecurity is actively managed, aligning with standards and best industry practice.
